Beyond the Mirror | Natalia’s Story

When Natalia arrived in the UK, she wasn’t just escaping a war—she was trying to rebuild her life from the ground up.

Shortly after arriving, she was diagnosed with basal cell carcinoma (BCC). She spoke very little English, had no access to private healthcare, and was navigating an unfamiliar healthcare system while carrying the emotional weight of everything she had left behind.

The NHS gave her hope. She underwent surgery to remove the cancer and was advised to apply Vaseline to the wound to support healing. She was told she would be reviewed in three months.

But the review was delayed and, appointment after appointment was cancelled. Four months later, the wound still wasn’t healing as she had hoped. Her GP advised her to continue applying Vaseline while she waited.

That was when our paths crossed.

Natalia became part of Beyond the Mirror, our charitable project dedicated to restoring confidence and hope to people living with the physical and emotional impact of scarring.

Over the following weeks, she completed 10 sessions of LED light therapy alongside topical applications of Exo Skin by DermapenWorld and Tripeptide Collagen by Yotsuba Japan as part of her personalised skin recovery programme.

Week by week, the changes became visible—not only in her skin, but in her spirit.

Today, her wound has healed beautifully, the redness has significantly reduced, and the fear she once carried has been replaced with confidence.

But what touched us most wasn’t what we could see.

With the biggest smile, Natalia looked at us and said:

“I have so much energy.”

Those words reminded us that healing is about so much more than closing a wound. It’s about helping someone rediscover themselves. It’s about restoring confidence, dignity, hope, and the belief that tomorrow can be brighter than yesterday.

Natalia’s story is why Beyond the Mirror exists.

Because every scar tells a story—but it should never define a person’s future.

In a world where so much has been taken from so many, we have the opportunity to be people who give. We may not be able to change someone’s past, but together we can help change what comes next.

Kindness costs little, but its impact is immeasurable. Every act of generosity, every moment of compassion, and every hand extended to another person creates a ripple far beyond what we can see.

As the old saying goes, the candle loses nothing by lighting another candle.

Thank you for helping us bring light, hope, and healing to those who need it most.

Shared with Natalia’s permission. Her experience reflects her individual treatment journey, and outcomes may vary from person to person
