Everything you need to know about microdermabrasion

WHO WOULD BENEFIT FROM MICRODERMABRASION?

If you can relate to any of the following examples then you would benefit from a course of microdermabrasion treatments.

  • dullness in the complexion
  • uneven skin tone
  • uneven skin texture
  • age spots
  • dark spots that can form after acne clears up
  • melasma, a common issue that forms dark spots or patches on the skin
  • scars

HOW MANY TREATMENTS AM I LIKELY TO NEED?

Depending on your skin type and after a detailed consultation your aesthetician will recommend the best course of treatment for you. You should expect between 5 and 15 sessions which can be carried out weekly, 2 weekly or monthly, again depending on your skin type. The key as always choose your doctor and make sure you’re in the right hands. Although microdermabrasion is a non-invasive procedure it could still have lasting side effects if used incorrectly.

IS IT UNCOMFORTABLE?

This procedure should not be painful and would take around 30-40 minutes to treat the face and 20 minutes to treat the neck area.

IS THERE ANY RECOVERY TIME?

You may experience some redness directly after your treatment, this will quickly disappear to leave your skin feeling smooth, soft and firm usually by the following day. If you are treating age spots or acne scarring then it can take a little longer to clear but you would usually be ready for your next session the following week.

CAN I HAVE A SINGLE TREATMENT?

Yes, if you want a fresh radiant complexion with all the anti-ageing qualities of microdermabrasion then one occasional treatment will be perfect. Ask your specialist for advice.

WHY WOULD MICRODERMABRASION NOT BE AN ADVISABLE TREATMENT OPTION?

Your aesthetician would not recommend this treatment for anyone who scars easily, are prone to consistent cold sores or have been taking prescribed acne medication in the previous six months.
