How does laser hair removal work? Laser energy is delivered through a small hand-piece operated by one of our experienced technicians. The laser delivers an intense beam of light. The laser energy is absorbed by the hair follicle and converted into heat. The heat deeply penetrates the hair follicle while the surrounding tissue remains unaffected. You may experience some redness following the treatment. However this typically lasts from a few minutes to several hours after the procedure How painful is laser hair removal? In most cases, laser hair removal causes minimal pain, especially when you compare it to other treatments like waxing. Many patients state that it feels like being snapped by a rubber band. Of course, the area being lasered and your personal pain tolerance will dictate the pain level associated with laser hair removal.
Will I need a consultation before my treatment? Yes, your trained technician will perform a pre-treatment skin analysis (patch test and consultation). This is to check your tolerance to laser therapy. If the outcome is satisfactory you will be able to commence your laser hair removal treatment at the next visit.
How should I prepare for my initial consultation? Please do not use any products, makeups, perfumes on the treatment area. Please also shave the area you wish to have treated as a patch test will be performed. This is an important step to prepare for the patch test to keep you, the client, safe and comfortable. A patch test is when a few bursts of the laser are applied to a small area of the skin (i.e. like a small treatment) so that we can see for any negative reactions you may have to the treatment.
Do laser removes hair permanently? Laser hair removal is permanent when the hair follicle is destroyed. When the hair follicle is only damaged, the hair will eventually regrow. The amount of time it takes for the hair to regrow depends on the person’s unique hair growth cycle. Some people have hair that grows more quickly than others. Hair that is in a resting phase will grow back more slowly than hair that is in another phase. Most people report 90 percent permanent reduction in hair growth but fluctuating hormones can make hair grow back. Depending on your hair growth and each individual clients’ case, at the end of the treatments we may recommend some top up treatments which could take place with larger periods in between quarterly, or twice a year.
How long do the treatments take? How many will I require? Treatment times may vary depending on your specific needs. Hair growth is reduced after each treatment which are given every 4 to 6 weeks. The number of treatments required will be based on your hair colour and type, body area and skin tone, but generally 6 treatments is a minimum number. It is worth noting that treatment is only effective on hairs with a pigment. This means laser treatment will not work on light blonde, white or grey hairs.
Can Men Have Laser Hair Removal? Yes. One of the reasons laser hair removal is ideal for men is that it works equally well across the entire body and has long-lasting results. From a few unwanted tufts, to an entire back, chest or stomach, laser hair removal is efficient and effective.
Is Laser Hair Removal Safe? Absolutely, laser hair removal is safe. The laser targets only the hair follicle, leaving the surrounding skin unharmed. You may experience some redness, but this should subside within 24 hours.
Will Laser Hair Removal Feel The Same Every Time? As you have more sessions, we target fewer and fewer follicles – so you’ll feel the laser less each time.
When will I see the results after having laser hair removal? You will likely see the results immediately after treatment. The results vary from patient to patient. The color and thickness of your hair, area treated, type of laser used, and color of your skin all affect the results. You can expect a 10% to 25% reduction in hair after the first treatment. To remove the hair, most patients need at least 6 laser treatments. After finishing the treatments, most patients do not see any hair on the treated skin for several months or even years. When the hair regrows, there tends to be less of it. The hairs also tend to be finer and lighter in color.
Will Treatment Make My Skin Sore? Our treatments will never harm your skin. There may be a little redness, but this will fade within 24 hours. The heat from the laser stays in your skin for 24 hours so no gym, saunas, hot showers, etc.
Does skin or hair color make a difference? Hair removal works best on people with light complexions who have dark hair. This is because the pigment contrast makes it easier for the laser to target the hair, travel into the follicle, and destroy the follicle. People with dark skin or light hair may need more treatments than others and may find that more hair grows back.
Is It Better To Wax Or Have Laser Hair Removal? Waxing regularly and over long periods of time can cause damage such as darkening and lightening of the skin (hyper and hypo pigmentation) in grown hairs which can lead to scarring. With laser hair removal as it permanently reduces the thickness of the hairs and isn’t abrasive to the skin it doesn’t have any detrimental effects to the skins tone and texture and as after a course of treatments the hair is reduces in thickness darkness and amount the regularity of removing the hair is massively reduced and can help the skin return near to normal condition.
What precautions should I take? During your course of laser hair removal, we advise that you avoid exposing the area to direct sunlight for minimum 2-4 week prior to your treatment and always protect the skin with sunscreen. This includes any sun tanning beds or machines. If your skin is exposed to these rays, it may cause white pigmentation.
Can You Get Cancer From Laser Hair Removal? No – Cancer is caused by UV spectrum of light- ultra violet light which irradiates the cell’s DNA causing irregular growth changes which can cause cancerous growths . Laser hair removal uses the red spectrum of lightspecifically infra-red which is only absorbed by the dark pigment in your hair called melanin. This cause no changes to your skin cells and is very safe.
Will one treatment be effective? You need to attend every session. You have to be consistent with treatments to get the best results. You also have to be really regular with your appointments because your hair follicles are all at different stages of their growth, so you want to make sure each one has a chance to get zapped. The laser will target the hair that is in its active growth stage. Clients may find hair to appear finer and less noticeable after one treatment but a course of treatments is essential to see optimal results
